CHILD-GROWTH-ORTHODONTICS
Child-growth orthodontics focuses on guiding jaw development and tooth alignment during a child’s growing years. Early intervention allows orthodontists to detect potential issues and correct them before they become more complex.
Why Early Orthodontic Treatment Matters:
- Guides proper jaw growth and supports healthy facial development.
- Creates adequate space for permanent teeth to erupt correctly.
- Reduces the risk of severe misalignment in the future.
- Helps correct bite problems at an early stage.
- May shorten or simplify future orthodontic treatment.
WHEN IS GROWTH ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT NEEDED FOR CHILDREN?
Take your child to a dental check-up if you notice the following signs:
- Crooked or crowded teeth.
- Protruding front teeth (overjet).
- Underbite (lower jaw protruding forward).
- Spacing issues or large gaps between teeth.
- Frequent lip biting, thumb sucking, or tongue thrusting habits.
- Mouth breathing or snoring during sleep.
- Deep bite, crossbite, or reverse bite.

WHY DO CHILDREN NEED EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?
A child’s jaw develops most rapidly between the ages of 6 and 12. This is considered the “golden period” to:
- Guide proper jaw growth and positioning.
- Correct tooth misalignment as permanent teeth erupt.
- Prevent jaw discrepancies from becoming more severe.
- If this stage is missed and treatment is delayed until adulthood, the jaw can no longer be corrected with functional appliances.
- Delayed treatment may require tooth extractions or even jaw surgery during orthodontic care.
WHAT TO DO DURING GROWTH ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?
- Attend regular check-ups as scheduled.
- Encourage proper daily oral hygiene habits.
- Limit sugary foods and carbonated beverages.
- Correct harmful oral habits (thumb sucking, nail biting, tongue thrusting).
- Promote nasal breathing instead of mouth breathing.
